The Metropolitan and Territorial Planning Agencies global network – MTPA-gn – is an association under French law created in 2017 with an international vocation. This network was born out of an initiative between several networks of planning agencies at a networking event during the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development, Habitat III, in Quito in October 2016.
Urban planning agencies provide technical advice to local authorities. The aim of the MTPA-gn is to bring them and their networks together in order to capitalize on their experience and participate in sharing knowledge between them. Today’s towns and cities are facing similar problems: climate change, changes in modes of transport, energy consumption, increasing inequalities and exclusion. The MPTA-gn aims to bring planning agencies together and help them work as a network to find solutions to these shared problems.
The MTPA-gn also aims to assist territories and cities wishing to set up planning agencies.
The MTPA-gn is made up of planning agencies and networks of planning agencies from all over the world. These agencies meet once a year at the General Assembly, which is open to all members and partners of the network. MTPA-gn members also meet at international events such as the World Urban Forum, UN-Habitat conferences and members’ own events.
The MTPA also works in partnership with a wide range of organisations:
- States and international organizations
- Local and regional authorities
- NGOs and professionals
- Companies
- Universities
The MTPA’s aim is to grow and to welcome a large range of planning agencies from all over the world. If you would like to find out more about the network, become a member or partner, please fill in the form to get in touch with us.
